The University of Chicago Hospitals have developed an extensive benefits program for house officers and their dependent. Dependents include a housestaff member's spouse, domestic partner and any unmarried dependent children under the age of 23 residing with the housestaff member. The benefits package includes dental coverage, flexible spending accounts, health insurance coverage, HIV coverage, life insurance, long-term disability, personal accident insurance, tuition remission for spouses and children, supplemental retirement annuities and workers' compensation. The department provides first year residents with a copy of the Basic and Clinical Science Course books.
Vacation Each resident has four weeks vacation per year. Any vacation time not used during a given year cannot be carried over to the following year. Residents are not allowed to take vacation during the month of July.
Sick Leave Each resident is allowed five days of paid sick leave per year.
